The Silent Struggle: Challenges of Plant Care
Inconsistent Watering
Daily routines and memory lapses often lead to irregular watering schedules, leaving plants either parched or waterlogged.
Physical Burden
The repetitive act of watering—sourcing, measuring, and carrying water—is a time-consuming manual task.
Suboptimal Health
Lack of a consistent hydration regimen results in poor plant health, stunted growth, or, in severe cases, the plant's demise.

Process: Reflections and Solutions
Throughout AquaCal's development, we encountered several design and manufacturing hurdles. Each challenge presented a unique learning opportunity, pushing us to innovate and refine our approach to achieve the optimal plant care system.
Water Pipe Integration
Our initial designs overlooked the critical placement of the water pipe, leading to issues like stretching and leaks during system rotation. This taught us the importance of accounting for all moving parts from the outset for robust functionality.
3D Printing Precision for Magnets
We faced challenges with 3D printing dimensional accuracy, especially for magnet housing. The required hole size varied significantly based on print orientation, necessitating precise adjustments for each print to ensure a perfect fit.
Watertight Acrylic Window
Achieving a completely watertight seal for the acrylic window proved tricky. After experimenting with numerous adhesives and techniques, we finally discovered the ideal glue that ensured a perfect, leak-proof bond for AquaCal.
